Lifespan Local Presents: The Forest Within

On April 10, artist Arturo García, a full-time Westwood-based painter, presented The Forest Within at Blossom House as part of Lifespan Local’s first community art exhibition. The show centered on García’s paintings of the “tree of life,” transforming a concrete community space into an immersive reflection on nature, memory, and belonging.

García explained that the concept was to “build a forest inside of a concrete space,” inviting visitors to experience paintings not just as images, but as emotional environments. His work emphasizes that “paintings transmit feelings,” and encourages viewers to feel life rather than simply observe it. For García, the tree of life is deeply personal yet universal—something he describes as part of our “creative DNA,” since many people first draw trees as children before ever learning formal art techniques.

The exhibition was also shaped by Lifespan Local’s mission to keep creativity, imagination, and cultural memory active within the community. Organizers emphasized the importance of honoring heritage, history, and local artists while creating space for belonging and shared expression.

Visitors responded strongly to the experience, sharing that the work lifted their spirits and reinforced a sense of connection to community and place. The exhibition aimed to extend that feeling, with García expressing hope that guests would leave with “a feeling of redemption, a feeling of reconnecting, and the love of sharing that will bring a better place for us as humans.”
